Since its discovery in 1854, Clogau Welsh Gold has been one of the most sought after precious metals in the world.

The famous Clogau (pronounced "clog-eye") Gold is solely mined in St. David's Gold Mine, located in Bontddu, near Barmouth in the Snowdonia mountains, North Wales.

The mine at Bontddu was opened as a copper mine in 1842 and gold was discovered by accident in 1854 by Mr. Goodman, a director of the copper mine.

One spring morning Goodman casually picked up a piece of waste rock and broke it in two. The waste rock contained no copper, but to his surprise there was the presence of a glittering vein of Clogau Gold.

Mining the gold proved to be difficult and laborious work for the Victorian prospectors.

The tradition of gold mining remained strong in the local community and a number of those who worked there are the direct descendants of the original Victorian miners.

Clogau St. David's Gold Mine has gone through mixed fortunes in the last century; the gold veins are variable and difficult to locate, making this Welsh Gold extremely rare.

Clogau Gold has a long history of association with the Royal Family.

Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales both have wedding rings crafted from gold extracted from the Clogau St. David’s Mine. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, Diana Princess of Wales and Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret Countess of Snowdon also wore wedding rings crafted from Clogau gold.

In celebration of 150 years of gold extraction from St. David's Gold Mine, Conway Stewart has launched the Clogau 150th Anniversary Pen.

Based on the popular model one hundred series, this sleek and subtly curvaceous fountain pen is crafted out of precious resin in our popular marble blue finish. While it might seem a basic blue at first glance, our Marbled Blue is, at closer look, a stunning mixture of light and dark marbled blue with a background of indigo shades lightened with shimmering pearlescent sky blue.

Five solid Clogau 18 carat gold bands are featured on the cap and barrel.

Both the Welsh Dragon and Conway Stewart hallmarks are engraved on the cap band guaranteeing the purity of this rare Clogau gold.

The barrel is laser engraved with the Clogau Gold logo in addition to the Conway Stewart trademark logos and limited edition number.
